Clayton, a growing suburb, is just 20 miles southeast of Raleigh, the state's capital. The town is conveniently located close to the attractions and ammenities of a big city, while still maintaining a small town atmosphere. For the past decade, this city has grown by leaps and bounds as families from all over the nation have chosen this area as their destination when relocating. From the great schools, to the abundance of new home neighborhoods, Clayton offers most everything that today's family is looking for.
Recently, Clayton was ranked in the top 10 by BusinessWeek magazine as one of the most affordable places to live that provides a top education for children. With an "average school ranking" of 9.3 out of 10, Clayton was the only town in North Carolina to make the ranks. When asked, almost everyone who has relocated to this area will say that it was the schools that attracted them the most.
In addition to great schools, Clayton also offers several other attractions. It is home to some great golf courses, including the Pine Hollow Golf Club, the Riverwood Golf & Athletic Club, and the Neuse Golf Club. For movie and history buffs, there is the Ava Gardner Museum in nearby Smithfield and the Bentonville Battlefield in Four Oaks, a Civil War National Historic Landmark where they hold reenactments on occassion. The Neuse River that runs through Clayton provides opportunities for great fishing and kayaking.
Since Clayton is located in such close proximity to the Research Triangle Park, it has attracted numerous businesses in the biopharmaceutical field such as Talecris, Hospira, and Novo Nordisk. In 2005, the Research and Training Zone was created which includes a Workforce Development Center that provides skill training for current and future employees in this line of work. Another major employer in the area is Caterpillar, whose Building and Construction Products Division is located right off Hwy 42 East in Clayton.
Clayton is a great place to live, work, learn, and play! There are several reasons why Clayton proclaims itself as "The Premier Community for Active Families."
